Idlewild Baptist Church held its annual Holiday Tables event on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Holiday Tables is an event that brings women together from all over our community. It is a way that members of Idlewild can invite women who may never go to church to enjoy an evening of viewing beautifully decorated tables, music, and a sermon. This year the music was song by young ladies and gentlemen of the Cambridge School choir, and a heart-warming presentation by Jody Montgomery, reminding us of God’s promises.
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Proverbs 12:25
Over 80 tables were decorated with a variety of themes, including a Paris inspired table adorned with glittering plates and an assortment of macarons, an outdoorsy table with natural wood chargers (place mats) and tackle boxes filled with edible treats, and several tables reminding us to be thankful for our blessings and giving us inspiration for our own Thanksgiving table this year.
Many tables were decorated for special birthdays, including the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the celebration of Christmas.
A few more of my favorites included a Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired table with white, turquoise, and of course fabulous sunglasses, a fun Jaws-inspired table with a paper-machete shark, and a beautiful rose China table setting adorned with a napkin folded in the shape of a rose.
Among the fun and whimsical place settings, I found a replica of what a table might have resembled during Jesus’ time, with wooden spoons, pictures, and burlap napkins. It really made me pause and think. Nearby was a Handel’s Messiah-themed table with a large angel centerpiece and gold and red place settings.
All of the tables were incredible to look at and I’m amazed at the amount of time and planning that went into decorating for this event. The women involved are so clever and talented.
It was a great evening and be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s event. You don’t want to miss it!
